I'm just about to take the plunge and buy my first skates and was gonna get a pair of Riedell R3's - but I see that they're plastic boots, which sound sweaty and horrible. Anyone know what the best leather alternative would be for a similar spec...or would this cost a whole lot more?

I am stopperless on one skate!

The chunky snyder stops that used to be mine are on X-Ray's old skates.. I think they're in the loan kit somewhere. Anyone know if they're being used? I'd like the stops back if possible, but will swap them for a new pair of regular Riedell stops (which I am about to order).

In the mean time, are there any loan skates nobody's using? If so can I tax a stopper off one of them for Sunday?

Also if you have been borrowing kit for over 8 weeks we would now ask you to start to buy your own kit. I appreciate it's quite the outlay, so come talk to me or Amy (Princess Vicious) if you have a particular issue and we can sort it out.

Also if anyone has any old pads, lids, skates lying around going unused. Please consider donating them to the loan kit as we could do with the widest range ...

I need to order some new, smaller skates soon-ish - does anyone have size 6 or 6.5 265s (Actually, I say 265s, I'd be up for trying any model) that I could try at practice, so I can figure out what size I need? Also, if anyone's got wide fitting too, that would be brilliant...I have wide, flat flipper feet!

Once I've ordered, I'll then have my size 7 Vandal 265s to sell to anyone that needs some!

hey,

i'm sure some people will have noticed this, but for those who haven't, everglides are now stocking *heartless wheels*! the reason i think this is exciting is that the heartless are narrow profile for increased manouverability (like the hockey wheels), but because they are derby wheels they come in different grades of hardness so you can mix and match them. they are also totally hollow-core so are lighter than regular wheels.

everglides are stocking four of the heartless wheels:

Being a derby skater brings with it a whole new realm of odor and cleaning issues many of us have never had to face before.

We have new kinds of clothing and gear that haven’t come up in laundry exercises before. For some of us, who haven’t done sports since the 80’s, shirt materials have changed. We also have a wardrobe of clothing, such as fishnets, which maybe we wore in drama club, but are new to us.

Hi guys,

We are going to put an order through with Reidell for some skates and maybe some other stuff too (wheels etc)

If anyone wants something specific from them let me know in the next few days. You get your usual RTRB discount or the skates/items for the equivalent of the US dollar price, not sure on the details yet, but best of all no carriage charges from the US

Sheesh I'm too good to you lot ;)

Knee pads - recommendations?

Hi all,

I've currently got some second-hand TSG Force knee pads which I'm not getting on too well with, mainly as they keep turning inwards and making me look as if I'm skating knock-knee'd, plus my knees are 'connecting' with the wrong part of the pad.

From excessive Googling, and a glance at the LRG forums, the recommended knee pads seem to be 187 Pro Knees, TSG Force III's or Rector Fat Boys (see link to Sin City Skates here). I also spotted these lovelies on the TSG website.

http://www.billys.co.uk/english/group.php?prod=patsw-wrist-pro

I've had them for 6 months or so, they have scuffed splints and slight signs of wear, but are totally functional and really comfy. I've also washed them so they aren't stinky!

Would anyone like to make me an offer for them? I'm really not after a lot of money, and will also consider any interesting derby related barters anyone has.

i'm thinking that one potential issue with regard to intra-pack communication might be the fact that i, for example, can't even speak coherently with my mouthguard in, let alone shout useful things to anyone else.

does anyone have a mouthguard that they love, which is both comfy and enables them to talk without sounding a bit like darth vader? if so, please tell me how and where to get one? (fun patterns would be a bonus).
