Hello there RollerBillies
Hi there, I was asked to register here, so here I am.
I'm Will the tall guy with the camera who did a frankly fantastic job of penalty box timing last Sunday. Hope you guys are all well.
I haven't had chance to process the pictures from Sunday, as soon as I do I shall post a link for you to see what we got. Seriously contemplating leaning how to sakte.. so any advice on kit would be welcome. :)

Re: Hello there RollerBillies
Yay awesome, you should definately learn to skate!
Billy's should have all the kit you need except the skates! (they forgot to order mans sizes). I'll give you a newbie info pack that will tell you all about what you need to get and where to get it! Reidell R3's are the skates most people start out with, have a look at everglides.com and see what they have in stock! The guys really helpful so give him a ring if your unsure about sizing.
Other than that you need knee, elbow and wrist guards, with plenty of padding, but the best thing to do is go into Billys and they'll sort you out!
And yes, your penalty timing was wonderful, i think we made them all very sorry!

Re: Hello there RollerBillies
Billys is the skate shop on Burleigh Street (near the grafton) where Graeme and Dom work. They sell all manner of lovely skatey things and will help you pick!
Hmmmm i thought it was just that for everglides, i'll have to find the proper address for you when i get home, but if you google Reidell skates it will prob come up, not many places here sell them. The other place is sin city skates in america, but they take a while to come!

Re: Hello there RollerBillies
You'll be fine! Are you free on thursday evenings to come to Manor community college? We run a basic skills session from 8.30-10pm, where we can teach you how to skate from scratch! It's really good fun! I couldn't even stand up when i started!

Re: Hello there RollerBillies
Should be free... I live just off Kings Hedges road, so no real excuse not to lol. Just need to get some skates. Will I be all right starting out with in-lines.. seems like they will be essayer to get hold of? I know they are a little frowned on, but I can handle that.. I can get some quads when I can get some ordered.
... looking forwards to falling over.. a lot. ;)

Re: Hello there RollerBillies
Well some of the Refs do use inlines, so if you already have them they'd be ok to start out on, but tbh i really wouldn't bother buying them, just get Quads!!! Everglides will get them to you in a couple of days if they have them in stock!

Re: Hello there RollerBillies
They have R3s at skate attack and skateasylum as well, although a bit pricier than everglides. And sin city doesn't seem to take that long in my experience, although maybe I've been lucky.
I agree with Princess, I wouldn't buy inlines, but if you have/can borrow some then bring them along

Re: Hello there RollerBillies
If you're learning from scratch there's not much point getting inlines - you'll have to start over when you get some *proper* skates
It'll be hard for us to teach you on inlines anyway, it's a different style of skating and the beginner sessions are geared towards quads.
Might be worth considering some hockey skates as a starter - Slapshot have some at £60, which is cheaper than getting R3s from Everglides. Hockey boots are quite similar in style to derby ones, they're low on the ankle so they suit the derby stance. A lot of derby girls wear hockey skates.

Re: Hello there RollerBillies
hello matey, yay learning to skate with the team! i would say not bother with inlines. they are totally different, i can inline for shit, literally cant even stand up in them so itd be a nightmare to transfer to quads. Does john at everglides not have you size or something?

Wow.. OK.. so err... yeah pretty much through shear peer pressure I caved in an bough some Riedell R3 Jam Skates, Helmet and Triple Pad Set. you are all quite scary, and frankly I didn't want to mess with you. However I do I hold you all personally responsible for teaching me how not to kill myself on them.. and also not laughing at me when I go to casualty.
